Elizabeth Buie, FRSA
Today I became a Fellow of the RSA — the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce — and I am very pleased about that. In early November they emailed me inviting me to join, and the next day I sent in my application. Six days later I received an email informing me that my application had been approved. The glitch in that is that new Fellows have to wait until their first payment has been processed before they can log into the Fellows area, fill out their profile, or add “FRSA” to their names. And the timing was such that I would have to wait almost another month from that approval notification.
But today’s the day, and I’ve received my Fellowship number. It so happens that I’ll be in London later this week, and unless something comes up I plan to spend Thursday afternoon at RSA House.
Some people have told me that RSA Fellowship is not quite the high hono(u)r it used to be, but I can’t think it will be anything but good for me. It’s not that expensive (about £15/$25 a month, paid yearly) and it should be a great resource for networking. Plus, it’s full of educated people who share many of my values about making the world a better place, and that cannot be but good news. They do have a small chapter in the North East of England; unfortunately, its monthly get-togethers are on Wednesday nights, the same as Cappella Novocastriensis rehearsals, so I’ll have to make some decisions about that.
